HealthTech Guidance (HTG) is the category of NICE guidance produced under the consolidated HealthTech programme, whose manual was published in July 2025. It replaces the former Medical Technologies Guidance and Diagnostics Guidance and covers non-medicine technologies including medical devices, diagnostics and digital health technologies (including artificial intelligence). Recommendations are made on the basis of clinical and cost effectiveness, applying a life-cycle approach of early use, routine use and existing use. A significant change from previous methods is that devices no longer need to be cost saving to be recommended: cost-effectiveness is assessed, aligning device evaluation more closely with the appraisal of medicines, and most evaluations consider multiple comparable technologies together.
